The Kokomo Perspective, The Kokomo Tribune, The Greater Kokomo Chamber of Commerce and The League of Women Voters will present a series of Candidate Forums featuring candidates for local office.
The events, which will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 15 and Wednesday, Oct 22, will feature five separate political races which will be decided on Election Day, Nov. 4. The Candidate Forums also will be telecast on KGOV Channel 2 on Comcast Cable.
The Candidate Forums will begin on Oct 15 with the candidates for Howard County Council Dist. 4, Howard County Clerk, and Howard Circuit Court. On October 22, the featured races will include Howard County Commissioner Dist. 2 and Indiana Representative Dist. 30.
Four out of five will be held in a traditional format, with candidates taking turns fielding questions from the moderator that pertain to the office being contested. In one Candidate Forum, however, the rules have been adjusted so that the citizens may get a more in-depth picture of the candidates.
The Dist. 30 statehouse race between incumbent Republican Mike Karickhoff and Democratic challenger Chuck Sosbe will be conducted in a more free-form manner. Rather than responding to individual questions, the candidates will be encouraged to actively debate on a series of topics, exploring each issue from their respective points of view.
Candidates featured October 15: Incumbent Republican Dick Miller and Democratic challenger Constance Brown for County Clerk. Incumbent Democrat Lynn Murray and Republican challenger Richard Russell for Circuit Court Judge.
