Position Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Residential House Manager, the Lead Caregiver for the Developmentally Disabled is the key figure in providing active treatment to persons served while helping to oversee the day-to-day operations and services provided to persons served in a group home setting. Provide active treatment and assistance with programming needs to all persons served in compliance with the State Board of Health regulations. Monitor director care staff to ensure assignment completion. Legibly document the major activities of the people served in daily notes. Administer medications responsibly according to procedures. Accurately document all medication passes in the medication log. Exhibit proactive leadership skills by suggesting ways to improve quality and effectiveness of services provided and leading staff in a fair and positive manner. Provide support to direct care staff during active treatment with persons served. Maintain physical condition of the group home. Provide and ensure a safe environment for the individuals served. Display a team-oriented, cooperative attitude and maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers, supervisory staff and persons served. Participate in IDT (Inter-Disciplinary Team) meetings as requested. Participate in staff meetings. Assist the Residential House Manager with conducting and documenting staff meetings as needed to review systems to ensure the best use of resources and assess quality of care for the persons served. Must be capable of meeting the physical demands required by caring for the persons served. Physical requirements may include, but not be limited to: bending; reaching; stretching; lifting 25-50 pounds (depending on person served) without assistance; grasping; visual acuity; running; walking; squatting, guiding; transporting; assisting with physical transfer; and manual dexterity to handle medications; and handling physical aggression as defined in CPI training. Provide services, as per Medicaid regulations. Must be capable of working scheduled shift. Must be able to accept direction from supervisor and other members of management. Must be able to function independently; follow and understand written and oral instruction and communication; and assess physical and behavioral situations in order to respond appropriately to the needs of the persons served. Must provide personal hygiene assistance to persons served. Remain awake and alert at all times during scheduled hours. Assist the Residential House Manager with scheduling staff and finding coverage for open shifts. Participate in the on-call rotation as assigned. Monitor performance and documentation of staff members. Communicate concerns to the Residential House Manager. Document any personnel issues and forward to the Residential House Manager. Follow all agency and residential division policies and procedures. Display patience in all situations involving persons receiving services, staff members, parents, and others in the community. Speak in an even, positive and personal tone of voice when conversing with persons served. Strictly maintain confidentiality of all people in compliance with agency policies and HIPAA requirements. Attend/request related training as authorized or required. Dress appropriately as defined by policies and procedures. Potential exposure to bodily fluids, pests, contagious pathogens, and/or bed bugs.


Qualifications:
As per State regulatory requirements, must be at least 18 years old. Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED required. Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining certification in CPR, First Aid, CPI and Medication Administration. Maintain a valid Indiana driver's license, insurance on personal vehicle (minimum of PLPD with Medical liability coverage), and maintain insurability as defined by the agency liability insurance carrier. Must possess and maintain reliable transportation that meets state requirements for transporting persons served. Maintain a clear criminal record, especially with regard to neglect or abuse. Minimum 1 year experience working with MRDD population preferred.
